Default Latest version of PT?

I just bought a new Mac Studio. Did a migration of all my apps/settings/files etc from my old MBPR.

Pro Tools would not open....nothing happened when I clicked on it. So in my hurry to get going, I purchased what I thought was the latest version thinking that it needed to be done based on the new silicon M2. I had clicked on the Black Friday special to get it for $60 off.

Anyway....Pro Tools now opens but while updating my signature at another developer website....I went to check what version of PT I had just installed at About Pro Tools and it said 2021.7. That seems the same version I had before.

Is this the latest version? I would have thought it would be 2023 something.

Thank you.

Wow....that's what I thought. Why would it show 2021.7?

That said.......I'm going out of my mind trying to get Universal Audio to work. It will not install the drivers for the interface because the System Settings will not allow the update software to install. Long story....others have run into the same thing with silicon Macs. Driving me insane.....I want to get recording.

So I may have made an error with Pro Tools. Thanks.

Oh holy crap.......my bad. Somehow I thought it was like a subscription thing where you buy it and when you go to use it you are using the latest version. I'm so tweaked by the UA software not being allowed by the system to install.....that I didn't realize I had to download and install the latest PT.

2023.9 PT Studio up and running.

Thanks.....sorry about that.

UA has some VERY specific installation instructions:
https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/art...Dg0OTAuMC4wLjA.

“Migration” is, according to general consensus, a really bad idea, and you should re-install everything (aka, start from scratch.)

Yes thanks..... I tried all that, over and over. Never got the intended result.

I now have a support ticket open there.......waiting the 24-72hrs for them to respond.

As to reinstalling everything.......wow, over a TB of stuff.......daunting. Hoping it does not have to go that route.

To the OP, you did a big mistake by "migrating." This is a major shift in platform/architecture and really required a clean install. You are going to end up with a lot of non-working apps and useless files on your system from your older Intel system that are just going to stick around (and possibly create problems.)

I absolutely do not recommend anyone doing a migration. It'll take a little longer to do a clean install but the headaches you'll not have later will be worth it. And you'll have a "clean break" when trying to track down issues in the future. If you've just done this, go back to your old system. Wipe your new system. Do a clean install on the new system (while continuing using your old system.) And once the new system is ready to go, just move your documents/projects/media and leave everything else behind on the old system. (That includes recreating preferences on the new system vs copying them over)

... and while doing that daunting complete reinstall, copy all installers to a safe place so whenever you need to do it again you have installers at hand already.

Also every time you update plugin or other software, update your installer archive with new installer version.

Don’t Forget - You also need to deauthorize anything that is machine authorized.

^ yes, but before that new computer needs complete clean install of everything. Intel stuff migrated to ARM... ugh, who thought that could work like a charm?
