Default PT 8_ 'not enough cpu' warnings and freezing up

constantly get the 'not enough cpu for rtas' type warnings. but cpu usage meter rarely goes above 30-40%.
tells me to close some rtas plug ins or increase cpu usage limit. it's already at 90%. buffer at level 4, cache is minimum.
and the track is always getting stuck and looping for about 5-10 seconds. then warning comes up.
did a couple of bounce to disks and had no trouble, though.
heard that it might be something with the graphics?

i am getting more ram for the G5, so maybe that'll help?
running PT 8.01 on dual 2.5g powermac w/leopard...

???

Hi,

Could be several things! which RTAS plugins do you have in the session? and have you reduced the Processors to one in the playback settings!

Could also be an out of date plugin! have you checked all plugins are up to date?

use this app to generate a list and copy paste here!! someone will help check the list for problem plugins...

The variation of this thread seems to appear anew every week.

Try lowering the processors from 2 to 1. That's the least intuitive thing in the world, but chances are, it'll fix it.

Same here! I increased the ram to 8,5 Gb, same problem!
I solved working with one cpu, but sometimes it hangs up doing anything, from opening a comment to moving a fader in automation mode, to just typing in the name of the track.
It's very annoying when it happens and i'm with clients, and it happens very often after they comment about how expensive my gear is...
And avidigi won't fix it for ppc user, very bad...

yes, it started with 8.0.1
have been running 7.3 before this with no such problems.
interesting about lowering the number of processors. do you know why this might work?

reduced from 2 to 1 processor. seems to have helped...
tried dicking around with a bunch os stuff in a session haven't got any cpu warnings.
rtas usage meter dropped down to around 10-11%.
also increased buffer size as well.

thanks to anyone who offered advice!
was getting ready to replace my system with the iphone 4-track recorder...
