Default mbox mystery

Any help dealing with the following would be greatly appreciated.

After having just installed PTLE 6.1 for Mbox onto my G4 1.33 (512), I can't seem to get PT to read any audio coming from the box. The microphone's level is registering on the Mbox's peak light, but not in the program. Audio input is set correctly, and record is enabled. The USB cable seems to work properly (all lights are on and the spdif and USB lights respond when I switch from the program).

Thanks in advance for providing what will no doubt turn out to be an embarassingly simple solution.

Launch Pro Tools and select 'Setups.' Go to I/O Setup>Input. You'll see your Mbox represented here; just hit the 'Default' button and click 'OK.'

Then go to Windows>Show Workspace; you'll see a column marked "A" at the top and one marked "V." Make sure that there is an "R" under each of those; if not, click on the letter itself (P or T) and from the drop-down select 'Record.'

That's all I can think of; if these don't work, post back.

Still nothing. There were already Rs in the "A"and "V" columns. Thanks for jumping in.

Have you used ProTools before?
You need to enable record on the track, AND in the transport.

Yes, record is enabled on both the transport and in the track. By the way, if I hit the play button in the transport, I get a message (-9135) saying that the Mbox is not connected. Cheers.

Hi,

Please try quitting Pro Tools and then unplug and replug the USB cable from the back of the Mbox. If this solves the problem, you may want to try reloading the Mbox firmware as a long term solution. You can find the firmware download here .

I had already tried that. Perhaps this is not relevant, but in System Preferences>Sound, although the Mbox does show up in list of devices, it's accompanied by a message saying that "the selected device has no input [or output] controls". Another interesting tidbit: if I hit Play in the transport window, Protools crashes and closes. Happens without fail every time. The mystery continues....

What is your version of the Mac OS?

Pro Tools LE 6.1 is incompatible with any version of Mac OS 10.3. If you are running 10.3 (Panther), please download the free update to Pro Tools LE 6.4.

Well, well. It seems I'm running 10.3.4. I'll download the update and let you know. Hope springs eternal.

Eureka! Like I said in my first post - embarassingly simple. However, I must also say that it never occured to me that Digidesign would have compatibility problems with any recent version of the Mac OS. I mean, you guys talk to each other on a regular basis, right? Anyway, all's well that ends well. Thank you.
