Default No signal on audio track

Hi,

My digi 003 rack arrived yesterday and I wanted to record some vocals with my shure sm58. I hooked everything up like it was described in the manual but i didn't receive any signal (on an audio track). But when I created an instrument track I got signal (and playback through monitors) but couldn't record it because an instrument track only records midi, right ?

So my problem is I don't seem to get any signal/playback on an audio track while i'm getting both on an instrument track ?

Have you got the mic/line button set to mic for the input?

Are you sure you have the right input selected on your channel?

Tell us exactly what you did, including what number input you plugged your SM58 into and what input was chosen on your Audio track.

Check that the input gain on the 003 is turned up. I presume you're going in through the XLR input.

The input is set to mic, the right input is selected (input 2 XLR)

I plugged my sm58 into input 2 (xlr) created an audio track in pro tools selected the input signal (analog 1-2 stereo). Turned the input gain up.

Result : No signal nor sound

But when I create an instrument track and do the exact same thing I get signal and playback. And you can only record midi on an instrument track so it is of no use.

I'm not familiar with the 003 but Analog 1-2 sounds to me like the output path. The input on the 003 should correspond with the track input, i.e Mic 2, A2 (Mono) or something like that.

Mono Mic should be recorded to a mono Audio track.

Did you record arm the track?

Did you try actually recording?

Your monitoring mode affects when you hear signal through an audio track. Try toggling to the other setting (It is either "input only" or "auto input")

All this makes sense, and the fact that assigning the input to an Instrument track shows level, means the mic preamp must be working. I think it will come down to a simple goof somewhere(isn't learning this stuff fun?)

Regarding Input only and Auto Input monitoring; Input only allows you to hear the mic(or whatever) while auditioning but NOT recording. Normally, you would use Auto Input. You can tell if Input only is selected by the little green square just to the right of the transport controls at the top of the edit window.
