Mixing \'Out of the Box\' with 002R ???
Hello all. I have a kind of weird question - I'm not even sure if I'm going to try it, but would like to know anyways - if I have an 002R and a, say, 8 channel mixer, and wanted to be able to mix using the seperate mixer and not inside ProTools, could I just run 8 XLRs from the 002R Outs to the mixer and mix down to 2 tracks (then send it off to something to record)??? I'd have the drums as 2 Outs, 3 guitar Outs, etc... Will doing this with 8 different outs at once add in noise when they all meet up again at the mixer? I really just want to use actual faders without needing the regular 002 or something even more expensive (as I have the 002R now...) Thanks for any help!

Re: Mixing \'Out of the Box\' with 002R ???
Yes, you can absolutely do it that way - the only drawback is the quality of your mixer. If you have a cheap mixer, you're bound to induce a significant amount of noise to the mix, as well as a decent amount of 'coloring' on each channel caused by the mixer's preamps/channel strip. If you like the sound of your mixer though, then go for it. If you have tracks free, you can even re-route your mix back into ProTools and record it on a new stereo track.

Re: Mixing \'Out of the Box\' with 002R ???
I thought about investing in a really nice console. But then I realized that I would also need to invest in better interfaces. And I'm not really just talking about conversion, either. The fact that you can only take 18 channels out of Pro Tools at any one time would mean that I could never mix a large track-count mix on a large console without an output for each channel. Well, you get what you pay for. That's ok, cause my production company is working great, and we saed $50,000 on not buying a console!!
