Default Re: Please i need help fast.. DIGI 002r

ok, it all sounds pretty good for what i will do.

Do you mean tat the latency is biger from let´s say OUT 3 and 4 ?? does that mean that useing outboard equiment for mixdown is a NO NO ???

and with the iBook i think i´ll be fine.. does anybody know if the harddrive is 7200rpm, and if not can i upgrade it ???

Thanks

Yes there is more latency on all outs except 1&2. Shouldn't be too serious a problem when mixing as you can shift tracks forward if you want to employ outboard processing.

Default Probably a silly question...

Pro Tools 6.x can use the second processor.
I'm running a dual processor and PT LE 6.1. Is it necessary to tell PT to use both processors, or is it an automatic thing?

I haven't experienced any more latency then what I experienced with my 001. If anything, setting it to 64 samples vs. 128 sampls, it's even better. You should be fine on your plugin count that you described. If I'm not mistaken, the main concern for me anyways with latency is durning the live recording process. Havning latency on the master mix has never been a concern for what I'm doing. A normal session I will have minimal plugs running until all the tracks are recorded, then I beef up the buffer/samples and start throwing plugs into the mix (when necessary). The only outboard gear in a TC Electrons M-1 reverb unit, nto a problem.

Good luck with your decision.

~Cheers~

You have to set your CPU limit to 99% to get the 2nd one to kick in.

FYI - I have a Dual 1gig Quicksilver w/ 1.5 gig of ram running OSX 10.2.6 I think. And my meters are slow. They are not in sync w/ the music and it's slightly irritating. It wasn't this way when I had my 001. Now, I'm not ruling out a problem w/ my Firewire ports because they ended up going totally dead. The Mac is under warranty thank god, and is in the shop as we speak getting a new MOBO ($730). So, maybe that is what the problem was. But "Partial functionality" doesn't seem right to me. They either work or they don't.

I'm hoping when I get my Mac back, this won't be a problem anymore. I'm also hoping that Panther will fix then when Digi approved. I know some other people have had problems with the meters being slow, so it's really hard to say why that is. I consider my machine to be well maintained, but maybe Drive 10'ing my Music HDD would help. Haven't tried that yet.

Ta!

I see. I run at 75% I think, so I guess I'm not using it. My system seems to run smooth most of the time. It's been a little funky lately. I have an unexpected quit every other day or so, and ocassionally, my bit rate light won't come on when turning on my hardware. Cutting it off and then back on always solves the problem, but my set up is only 5 months old. I expect a problem free rig. I'll be calling Digi soon to complain.

@ jpoprock

Do you have the 002r or the 002??? so you mean that the peak meter on the monitor is slow?...

With the iBook I am already positive. But with the 002r I am only 90% :-D
But it´s seams like it´s no problem. Would it be a different situation if i used the ADAT with say a Focusrite Octapre and the 002r ?? would this effect anything??

THANKS

But like i said my main conserne is the latency. Is the firewire good enoughe to beat the PCI card from the 001 ???
Well, are you using other firewire devices, like a firewire hard drive?
The firewire bus has a throughput limit (how much data can pass through the wire per second), and so does the PCI bus.

If you are using a firewire hard drive AND the 002, they both share the bus, which could result in higher latency. I don't have an 002, but I think most people who do haven't had a problem using it with a firewire drive, but you are correct in your concern.

i use the 002r.

And the only thing I have plugged into my FW Port is an iSight cam that isn't turned on when running PT.

As far as "latency" I don't really notice much of any on my rig. A little better than the 001 actually.

Are there a place on the net were you can read Black on White that the 002r is in any way better than the 001 besides the 2 extra pre amps??? are the pres any better than the 001´s.. I know alot of questions here.

oh, and another thing. Does it bother you that the Phantom power is on the backside?? I could imagine that it would be a problem when you have the 002r in a Rack. then you always have to turn it around and get your big hands in there and turn it on :-/

Naja, that was just a second thought...
