accurate headphones
I have heard alot about headphones lately on other websites and I need to know which headphones give the best result.
I have been using a set of Realistic headphones for the past 8 years and they sound pretty good for realistic ones, but my digi mixes are not sounding the same in my car as they are in the headphones. I have to do a lot of guessing in the mix to get what i want on a cd so i thought i would invest in a quality pair of headphones. Hopefully that would stop my problem of guessing. I don't use speakers to monitor my mixes cause i dont have the cash right now, so i need to know what works best. I've heard that Koss, Sennheiser, Sony, Grado and AKG all have great ones, but I have heard more good from the people using the AKG K240 monitor and the Sony 7506. I went ahead and purchased the K240's and i find that i have to turn the headphone volume way up to even get close to the volume of my realistics. is that normal? They also dont have the punch that my realistics do, but maybe that is why my realisitics don't produce good mixes either. Could someone please educate me on what makes a good set of headphones and which ones have worked best for you on your mixes. thanks |

Re: accurate headphones
I´m using beyerdynamic DT770pro, and I´m very happy with them, though they luckily don´t sound like my car speakers.

Re: accurate headphones
I´m not too specialized but read and heard much about this question. The AKG 240DF should be one of the best headphones ( one of two usually mentioned )for judging Audio. For pleasure such as the Sonys are best. But for mixing and editing you need a neutral impression. What you hear with the 240DF is realistic and gives a good idea of what is really available in your mix.
That´s why i got them. Regards Lalaman |

Re: accurate headphones
I tried the Sony (I don't recall which model but they were comparable in price to the AKG). They had very crisp high end with great detail. However, the high end seemed exaggerated and I imagined, for me, it would be irritating after a while. Hence I opted for the AKG240DF.

Re: accurate headphones
Yes, the 240's are very quiet. however, with the 001, I get a pretty good volume between about 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock. Other high-end AKGs are even quieter. But they sound a lot better than your realistics, right?

Re: accurate headphones
I prefer a set of NS-10's duct taped to my head.
