Default I need beats

HELP! I need some beats. I have the following:

1. Mac G4 running PT LE 5.1
2. Emu E6400 Ultra
3. Novation supernova rack II
4. Midi keyboard
5. Midiman 8x8

I am looking to work on drum sounds in my music and have reached a dead end. I am fed up of hitting weighted keys to trigger crappy drum sounds through my sampler. (I only have a few sample cds)

In delving into the world of percussion I have been overwhelmed with the number and types of products available. Pro tools isn’t for programming drums.

I have read other posts that you can use Logic in conjunction with pro tools is this my answer? Should I be looking at sequencers to run with my sampler and investing in some hot sample cds?

budget approx £600

What style music? Do you need live drums or loops?

Hi

My stuff is mainly acoustic and I want to add some live and electronic drum sounds to this. I dont like the idea of using loops as anyone could use the same loop. Is this just naive? I hope I have made myself a bit clearer.
Basically I want to be able to program live drum sounds in the same tempo as my audio in pro tools.

Is there anything out there for me?

Although there is a learning curve, I've found that Reason can do a great job using real drum samples with a lot of options for expression.

I have read about native instruments battery and understand you can rig it up with a midi drum trigger unit such as the akai MPD-16. But I get the impression that you get much better results from programming the drums so they are fully quantised, obviously you want to keep that "feel" to the rhythm, but I think this is more the road I am looking towards.

I am not sure if I should be looking to a piece of hardware or software.

I will have a read up about reason

cheers

"Real" sounding drums = Yamaha Motif Keyboard
but it'll cost about 1,500 for the "smallest" version. If your looking to go cheaper i'd suggest Battery software from NI around 3-500 i'm guessing......JMHO

I use Ableton Live 2 to put together my drum tracks from sample loops.

Only draw back is that it doesn't have have a direct interface into ProTools yet. Once PT supports ReWire (Live already does) things will be much smoother. Right now I import my Live tracks into PT.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Isn't the Motif rack under $1,000, with more features than the keyboards?

Reason, Battery, or Ableton Live.

Pick your poison. They're affordable, easy, and can give you killer drum tracks if you use good samples.
