Default Bouncing in HD

I know Jules touched upon this somewhere, but I haven't noticed an explanation and I'm quite puzzled. In a 44.1/24bit session it's easy to bounce/master a 44.1/16bit interleaved file. What bounce/conversion process is available in HD if I'm running a 192 session and the final product is a CD? My assumption is that running a session at 176.4 might make life mathematically easier, but even at that, what happens to the rest of the samples? What feature/plug/parameter takes care of them?

So, is it just a dumb question? How do I get a 44.1 stereo interleaved file out of a 192K session?

This is a stupid question,

just kidding, an EXCELLENT question! Sample and frequency rate conversion can make or break a system in my opinion. I'm a huge advocate for the POW-R algorythms and hope their is a FRC that is at the same calibur.

Unless I'm not understanding the question (always a possibility), then that should be fairly well covered in the Pro Tools 5.3 Reference Guide:
Chapter 29: Mixdown

available for download

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to investigate different possibilities, other than using PT's tweakhead SRC, especially for mastering CDs. I'd like to hear other opinions, possibly from mastering engineers. Let's say we get 192Khz mixes that need to be turned into 44.1 Khz CDs: what are the options?

Thanks,

Marco,

You might want to head over to

Pro Talk

and pose this question in the Mastering Section. Several mastering engineers post over there.

Peace,
Yorik
