Default White noise appearing in audio file!

An audio file in a session I've beeen working on has "developed" some white noise as part of it. It lasts about 10 secs and is not visable, ie the normal audio wave form of the alto sax is displayed, unless you zoom in close. Why?

Try re-calculating the waveform. If you can see it, you're fu&*%d.

Send your drive back to whomever makes it and demand a warantee replacement.

Guess: was it a Cheetah?

No it wasn't a Cheetah. It was an IBM Deskstar that was used as short term back up! I have the original files on another drive anyway.

thanks

Any chance ANY of your drives were formatted differently - HFS vs HFS+? I had white noise show up a couple of times when I had one drive that was not in the same format structure as the rest of my drives. Problem has not shown itself since all are now formatted HFS+.

Audio drives are all HFS, system drive is HFS+. I don't think it should make a difference.

Thanks

I had this behavior on a seagate hd years ago, when i addidtionally connected this drive to the scsi bus. So changed the order of my drives and all worked again. (I also testes the old scsi order again and the problem was ther again, Also mezzo had a lot of errors)

Scsi Woodoo, sometimes you have it !!!

Maybe you have a chance to switch something, replace scsi cables, aktive terminator.......

Ale

It's on an IDE drive no SCSI involved. It affected two files in different sessions, I suspect optimising to have caused the problem, as all was well initially for weeks! Then the files became corrupted. As I say these are back up files and I have the originals, it's just a little worrying!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">It might if they're ALL on the same bus or if you copied from one to the other. Good luck.

check your 'setup' menu. In 'playback engine' lower the cache to level 2. Same thing was happening to me.
