Default Midi help with 002r

First off, I haven't tried this in over 6 months so there may be some fuzz in my memory of how everything was setup.

I have a Kawai K1 that I plugged in and I could not get the 002r to work as my midi input for a number of programs that I have. I have the adapter cable for my sound blaster and when I plug the keyboard into that = I get midi, no fuss, no muss. When I plug into the 002r midi port and change the settings to "002r midi port" I get nothing.
I'm running WinXP home. I have PTLE 6.4 running and have installed the wave drivers and asio drivers. I would have run this in battery and absynth.

So does my 002 not like my K1, or does WinXP not like my 002?
Any settings I should look at anywhere?

Thanks,
gigs.

For the MIDI ports to be available for 3rd party apps.. Pro Tools must be installed.

I do have protools installed and it runs fine. I only mention the 3rd party apps because I don't have any soft synth modules in PT.

I'm kind of confused as to what you are trying to do. And what problem you are having.

You say you have 6.4 running? The program is open?

Please describe what exactly it is you are trying to accomplish, and maybe we could direct you in the right direction.

I'll try to be more clear.

I'd like to plug my Kawai K1 into my 002r and trigger the drum pads in Battery. When I plug my
K1 into my soundblaster it works just fine.

I'm sorry, but it's still not clear enough. You said in your original post that you had Protools running. The instructions for what to do will be completely different for doing it within protools instead of without.

For doing it while protools is running, you would need to create a stereo aux track and a MIDI track. On the stereo aux track you would select battery on an insert.
Then on the MIDI track, you would select whichever MIDI port the K1 is plugged into as teh input, and select a channel in battery as the output.

If you are trying to trigger it in standalone mode, without protools running, you have to activate the 002r MIDI ports within battery. You never mentioned which version of battery, and both versions are different so it is hard to direct you in that respect.

Thanks for the help and my apologies for not providing the necessary level of detail.

I'm trying to use Battery Version 1 in stand alone mode. I turn on my 002r. I connect my midi keyboard to the midi in on the 002r. I can select the 002r as the midi input device. I don't get any errors when selecting the 002r as a midi input device. When I play the keyboard I don't get any midi input. Then I connect my midi keyboard to the midi in on the sound blaster adapter. Then I select the sound blaster as a midi input. I don't get any errors when selecting the sound blaster as a midi input device. When I play the keyboard I get midi input. Then I connect my midi keyboard back to the 002r. I change the input back to the 002r and when I play the keyboard I don't get any midi input.

Hopefully this isn't as vague.

Pro Tools will hold onto the MIDI ports when it's running.
