Default Newbie

Just recieved my PT Free CD. I have a PC. I'm not sure on all the equipment I need to start my home studio.

My list consist of:

Midiman sport 2x2/and cables
Mic/stand and cables

I'm interested in learning this program and then moving forward to LE/HD.

*Note on page 16 of the instructions...it says "do not record to hard drive". I'm kind of lost on that part. Do I need a mixer?

i don't know if you have a soundcard. Maybe you have a built in one. If you can attach speakers to your pc, and listen to mp3-files or anything more then a beep" from your pc, including the start- and stopsound from windows you do have a soundcard in your system. Just go ahead and install ptfree. I think it will complain about a missing audio-device if you don't have one...

(please bear in mind that ptfree and ptle with digi001 are 2 completely different products, although the look almost the same.)

I've heard some pretty good results with the soundblaster pci128 card, and that is a fairly cheap audio-card. It's no comparison to the digi001 though......

If you want to record audio you will need a soundcard. Something like a soundblaster. I think the midiman 2x2 is a midi-device, so you can use it to control midi-synths, but you cant record audio with it. It IS a good idea to incorporate a mixer in your setup. Mackie has some very nice ones....

Thanks,

I'm still lost. Please bear with me...I'm so new at this. What all do I need? The only thing I have so far is my computer.

I want to be able to record Guitar, keys and vocals.

I went to Guitar Center for help. All they were trying to do is to get me to buy Digi 001 (out of my budget right now). I will buy it, but first I want to try PT Free. So, what all do I need to purchase?
