Default Monitor Gain/Calibration

I recently read and article that demonstrated how to calibrate and determine monitor gain in your studio by using pink noise. i found it slightly hard to follow and wondered if someone could possibly simplify the process for me

However, for the monitor Calibration the way it works is you want play Pink Noise which is every frequency played at the same dB. with a RTA (Real Time Anlyzer)you want to check different location in your mixing environment and when you see dips and peaks is where acoustical treatment should be placed...for example, a boost in low end you would put a bass trap near that area...(dont quote me word for word...its been awhile...)

Thanks Plugin. That's kind of the way i understood it, but some of those articles try to make everything sound scientific. They don't benefit anyone. Thanks for your help
