IAC driver in OSX panther!
This is great news for all who needs to run Logic and PT on the same machine. I haven't tested it yet as I am waiting for the upgrade to PT for the dual 2Gig G5.

Re: IAC driver in OSX panther!
Yeah, this is most definitely great news. If you already have your G5, you should be able to run PT now as long as you download the last release. There have been several people on here using the Dual 2Ghz G5 (HD and HD Accel only though) even though I don't think they are completely qualified yet. We just have to wait for the update so we can work under 10.3 now. It looks like things are finally coming together on OSX.

Re: IAC driver in OSX panther!
I am waiting for the PT LE update for the G5. My HD rig runs on a G4. I suspect I will have to wait until mid-November for LE compatibility.

Re: IAC driver in OSX panther!
Has anyone figured out how to utilize the IAC bus between applications such as Logic and Pro Tools?

Re: IAC driver in OSX panther!
It seems very simple. Create an IAC bus, call it "MTC to Logic" and enable PT to send MTC to that node. Logic grabs it and you're good. Funny thing is, there's no way to get PT to lock to the incoming code if you try to go the other way - which would be nice for when you want to just work in Logic doing some midi for a while. Anybody.... ideas?

"...there's no way to get PT to lock to the incoming code if you try to go the other way" -There never will be. Audio can't follow mtc. It might be possible to have mtc from Logic drive your master clock (by routing it externally,) which would then control the PT audio playback, but that seems rather excessive. Also, it would be theoretically possible for Digi to let you lock PT midi ONLY to Logic, but what would the point be? Who's gonna' use Logic for audio and PT for midi? |

In Logic, audio (and Midi) will gladly follow anything you throw at it, including a cheerleader waving a baton. The fact that PT doesn't is all proprietary programming. I've also tried sending MTC (from Logic) out a midi interface and then back into another midi interface for PT and that still didn't work. I guess I'll break it down and see where the process drops the ball. I do know that if one is running both apps, most of the time you'll want PT as the master, but it would sure be nice to have Logic be the master at times when you need to focus on programming some midi. I did this for years in OS 9 and learned to live with the limitations (the MMC from Logic to PT was always too clumsy for practicality), but now that we're way into OS X, I think it's really time for the software (and hardware) companies to give up the petty strongholds that they use to limit real inter-application workability. For one thing, if Logic was willing to be a ReWire Slave, this entire thread would be unnecessary. The ReWire2 audio/midi interplay in OS X is so great (I can run PT, Reason and Live and it all works seamlessly, initiating playback / recording from any application), the only thing that would be left for me (if Logic could be a ReWire slave) would be being able to address Reason's midi instruments from Logic (even though Logic wouldn't be the ReWire Host). How about a ReWire3 preferences where you get to choose what app is the audio Host and what app is the MIDI Host? The only sane alternative right now (as far as I'm concerned) is to run 2 CPUs (1 for PT and Live... and 1 for Logic and Reason). Have a Lovely Day! |

Re: IAC driver in OSX panther!
i have a question about MMC with Logic and Pro Tools. I haven't been able to get pro tools to lock to MMC coming from Logic so that at least I can start them both from Logic. I really don't care which one is the master as long as I can do this.
