Initializing Audio Engine -
Upon launching Pro Tools 12.7.1, unless I am running PT as administrator, I get the following error message:
The selected Audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device. and AAE error -6117 was encountered A few points here: -We use PT at our school and restrict students from having administrative rights so elevated rights is out of the question -PT did work up until shortly after upgrading to 12.7.1 -As I stated before, PT works when run as administrator. But I need It to run for our students. Thanks, Last edited by SopisticatedBear; 04-27-2017 at 12:17 PM. |

Re: Initializing Audio Engine -
Maybe try reinstalling Pro Tools and make sure you install for "All users of this computer"? But it looks like you're on a PC and I don't know much about them... You should give some system details.

Re: Initializing Audio Engine -
This will sound odd, but it works for me, and you might want to try it. It's what I have to do to get PT 12.7.1 to open 48K projects on my system. Go into Control Panel->Sound and choose your audio device. Select Properties->Advanced. And under "Advanced" set the default format to a 48K sample rate. Then it works. It probably was set to a 44.1K default.
Something broke in the ASIO implementation when I installed PT 12.7.1. Like you, my system worked previously. It doesn't seem to be able to change from 44.1K sample rate to 48K. But once initialized to 48K it can change to 44.1K. As I said, an odd bug, but this is my workaround. |

Re: Initializing Audio Engine -
On Windows it's best NOT to use your interface for Windows sounds/audio - use your onboard soundcard for that and use your interface ONLY for Pro Tools.
This advice is not in Avid's optimization documents, but should be.

Re: Initializing Audio Engine -
Guys I finally fixed this!
Go to the affected user's appdata/roaming and rename Avid to Avid.old so upon next Pro Tools launch it is forced to recreate the configuration. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks |
