Pointing to folder in Fieldrecorder functionality
Does anyone know how to avoid importing all fieldrecorder files and pointing protools to the folder instead? I remember reading this was possible, can't seem to find it.

Re: Pointing to folder in Fieldrecorder functionality
Enable a audio track to be a "field recorder guide track" by right clicking the track name in the edit window.
There is a selection in the dialogue that appears when you right click the track name or when you right click a region on a "field recorder guide track" enabled track. There is a setting where you can specify search locations which are outside of the session. You can add your search paths in that window manually. Assuming your scene/take and time code meta data match up it will work ok. If the project you are working on has gone through a Digital lab which strips the sound recorder meta data, you will not have any success though. Good luck. |

Re: Pointing to folder in Fieldrecorder functionality
Thanks, not a big manual reader here ;-) But I guess the second part of my question is how to avoid the guidetrack unpacking into 47 tracks. The Avid guy renamed all his files so I thought I'd try matching timecode. But with 20 days worth of material, that's a lot of sorting to do...

Re: Pointing to folder in Fieldrecorder functionality
With the field recorder guide track enabled , adjust the match options. You have the ability to math field recorder date, sound roll, tape name, scene and take, etc. Perhaps you can have more conservative match options set, it may help keep protools from displaying 45 match candidates.
I do wish there would be a way to specify which match candidates it would expand to tracks though. That would be a very handy feature. |

Thanks Mr. Ed, I think I'm going to hunt down some sort of metadata inspector to see if the AVID files have anything more than TC in common with the field recorder.

Try the workspace before going hunting for a third party solution.
