Clearly they don't know about Re-Recording Mixers.
Way more stressful especially with smaller budgets, less time and higher expectations.

They don't call it the hot seat because it is easy.

Stress... Mixing with Pro Tools is no stress. When I started in 1980 we mixed with No Automation, no Predubs and mixing into a Mono Composit track. Now that was very stressful! Mixing 40 tracks of SFX amd then Music and Dialog without automation....STRESS!

Admittedly, that news source is

1) not hard sociology and psychology,

and also this forum is

2) not supposed to be a place for politics.

However, I remember from school that something like "about 50% of people might react to life with a stress reaction."

Also, the world is arguably stressful, as ecosystems and communities are literally in trouble.

Without getting into the loch ness depths of debate over why, I think this stuff is clear.

There might also be a thing about film and media content literally sometimes being "on the next level" of thought and culture, pushing the limits, where there are hot topics, and all that.

I think it is probably more about video editors sitting in dark rooms by themselves for most of the week, with producers leaning over their shoulder shouting doomsday-isms about the repercussions of not getting a 30 sec edit of a washing machine to a client on time... And I say that not to devalue the work of editors. They do great work. It is more a comment on the nature of some industries actively choosing to subscribe to stress en masse. Often they do it simply because they can get away with it.

The stress 'rankings' seem to be based on a single question in a 15 question survey. "How important is stress tolerance to the performance of your job", with people ranking it from not important to extremely important. By phrasing the question as 'stress tolerance' rather than something like 'stress management' or 'stress mitigation', I guess the results naturally weigh towards jobs where stress is allowed and accepted as the elephant in the room.

But really, it's not like we are saving lives here. One of the greatest assets of post production is that while it can be high pressure, it will always remain relatively low stakes in the grand scheme of things (unless you find yourself delivering a baby on your S6). I think that in itself puts any feelings of stress on shaky ground. It shouldn't be something that is accepted as normal, as in this context it often is alleviated with nothing more than a healthy dose of perspective...

In my opinion, some of the most stressful jobs have to be in healthcare, like being a nurse or a doctor, especially with everything that's been going on recently. Then there's also jobs like air traffic controllers and firefighters where the pressure is really high. I actually worked in emergency services since last year, and honestly, it was too much for me. The constant stress and long hours made me decide to look for something a bit more laid back.

That's why I started looking for a new job and found a helpful site where you can search Tucson jobs here. I ended up landing a position in auto insurance, and it's been a much better fit for me. The environment is less hectic, and I feel like I can actually breathe and enjoy my work now.

With 5 of them eating, 4 of them typing on their computers, and 1 of them on the phone.... WHILE YOU MIX. and then asking you to turn it down but then complaining about you going over the allocated mix time.

I don't miss this at all!
