Default inputs 3-8 on 001 loose? or bad cables?

I just got my 001 a couple of weeks ago. With it, I bought some brand new 1/4" unbalanced cables (ok, they're new but cheap). And when I plug those cables on the inputs on the back of the 001 they don't work fine... if I plug them all the way to the end they don't work, then I need to pull them a little bit back and then I have the signal. Is this happening because the inputs are balanced and the cables aren't? Or just because they're cheap a** cables?

Yeah, it's a familiar problem. Actually I once worked with a Digi001 that even had input channels 7 and 8 out-of-phase!

Sometimes I wonder if they build those boxes out from recycled material...

While we don't recommend any specific brand cables, the 001 is typically tested using HOSA cables. The measured diameter of the TRS and TS 1/4" test plugs is typically 6.30-6.35mm. The length of the 1/4" plug is typically 29.95-30.00mm.

-With that being said, I would suggest you try another type of cable.

UGH!!! Digi recommends HOSA cables?? That's terrible. I've bought my fair share of HOSA cables in my day, and I'll never do it again. At least 90% of them have gone bad within 6 months of owning them, and the attempts I've made to get replacements have gone completely unanswered.

Nevermore, nevermore.

-My post states that we "test" Digi001 units with Hosa cables and makes no mention of any cable recommendations.

-Since cable manufacturers use cable connectors of varying sizes (usually by a few millimeters or so), we use a HOSA cable to test the jacks of the Digi001 to ensure proper contact. Remember...this is for testing purposes only and not to track the next Steely Dan record.

If you want a cable recommendation:
-Monster
-Mogami
-Switchcraft or Neutrik (for raw connectors when making cables)

Humm, now I see... I'm very inclined on making my own cables...
