Default G4 to G5 Swap??

Anyone know if you can upgrade from a G4 OS 9.2.2 to a G5 OS 10.3.2?? We have a new G5 (still in its box) that we want to swap with our G4. Currently we are still on a G4 and want to upgrade the studio to a G5 and PT 6.x.x., however is that possable, or does the PT upgrade scan the system for a current version to upgrade. I would assume that the PT.6.x.x upgrade disc would scan the computer for the digidesign folder and then update that. Would I install my version of PT 5.3.1cs3 on my G5 and then upgade that? I was under the impression that 5.3 would not run/work on a G5, yet I am not planing on working on my G5 with 5.3 only 6.x.x...so it would never be started...any ideas and tips would be greatly appricated!

Kevin

I would update the G5 to 10.3.4 and do a FRESH install of 6.4, or shortly 6.7

Im guessing you dont have the option of a fresh install from the 6.4 CD that you get from Digi...am I right? or can you do a fresh install from the upgrade cd?

You do not have to Load PT 5.3 onto the G5 ( Chances are you won't be able to). You will be installing 6.xx as new program onto the G5. That is the easy part. All of your third party plug-ins will have to be upgraded to function with PT 6.xx and Mac OSX. Depending on which plug-ins you own this could be expensive. I don't know which TDM hardware you have but make sure you go through all the compatability docs to make sure there are no surprises.
I have been with PT since version 1.xx, switching computers is never a small undertaking.
Good Luck
