Another midi ??? from a new member...
Hiya,
I am trying to use my Yamaha S-30 as a controller for Reason and a few other soft synths, but I am getting no midi signal to show on my mac. I simply have the midi out of my keyboard connected to the midi in on my 001 and I did the OMS setup as instructed by the program. The keyboard is set to transmit on channel 1 and as far as I can tell, everything on the computer is set to receive on channel 1. I had it working before with Koblo and I don't think I've changed anything since then, but I cannot figure out why nothing is responding. Any help is much appriceated. |

Midi Menu-> Input Devices-> Check off your controller in the dialog box.

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
Already done and still no luck.
Is there any way in OMS setup that I can see if signal is being sent? I see a test option under the Studio menu, but I'm not sure I can figure out how that works... Thanks. |

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
Yes in OMS you can do a test to see if your device is transmitting. I foirget exactly how to do it, but i think you go to the edit dropdown window and select "run test" or something similiar. then play a few notes on your keyboard and you should see some arrows moving in the OMS window, which will indicated if you are transmitting. I use a roland xp30 to controll reason. You might need to check all your seetings on your yamaha, On my xp30 there's a midi switch on the back that needs to turned on to work. That held me up for a couple of days. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
while on the subject of OMS, is it normal that my devices show up with a red question mark? Everything seems to be working fine, but both my Digi001 and my M-Audio card have those red q marks in the OMS setup, just wondering why that is.....?

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
OK...
There is a test option under the Studio menu - but it doesn't really do anything except turn the cursor to an 1/8 note instead of the usual arrow. I checked the keyboard again and everything looks like it should be working fine: Recieve=omni Trans=1 L ocal=off Device number=all I ran the auto-setup several times. Each time my keyboard shows up as the q-mark synth under the digi interface. I assume this is because OMS does not recognize my particular Yamaha product. Under the options for the device in OMS, I have set it as being multitimberal and as a controller. In the PT midi menu the instrument is checked off in the device list. All of the softwar that I can change channels on is set to receive channel 1 I have checked the connections - both midi in and out on the digi and the synth are connected as they should and the synth is powered up. Is there anything else that I am forgetting to do? |

When you go to 'test studio', and it turns your cursor into an 1/8th note, you click on the device and it will sound the module or keyboard indicating if it is recieving or not.

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
The red question mark is not a problem ignore it. Have you made sure you saved the OMS studio setup, >file>save and make current. If the new setup is not saved and made current that could be your problem. A diamond icon will appear next to the OMS file name when the studio setup has been saved. Hope this may help.

Re: Another midi ??? from a new member...
BTW the OMS test option should show arrows moving when you hit your keyboard, if your actually transmitting midi. If you don't see any arrows moving when you play your keyboard your midi is not being recieved by OMS. Another thing to try is make sure your midi connections are solid and properly configured. In's to out's, out's to in's make sure you have both connection hooked up to the digi001 when yopu configure this device.
