Default firewire 410 interface stops recording or changes to a buzz!

So im a relatively new pt user but i know how to use the program and i know that it works on my computer. however i have had problems with the firewire 410 interface either cutting out or picking up a buzz either while i've been recording or between takes. its obviously very frustrating because then i have to restart my computer and power everything off to get recording again and it gets really old and annoying anyway, my computer is a sony vaio with xp pro sp2, it has an intel pentium M processor, 1500MHz and 1 gb of ram.
any other specs i would be more than happy to provide

please see my mirror posting here: http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.p...part=1#1237216 and yes, I had this problem many times too, usually after changing something in the setup engine in PT (sample rate or playback setting). No need to restart, closing and reopening protools ought to do the trick, but good luck.

How do you have it connected and powered? You definitely want to avoid having both 6 pin firewire and the power adapter plugged in simultaneously. Other than that, I can't really suggest anything. My 410 worked flawlessy on my windows machine, and has been a little more problematic on the mac.

use only digidesign approved firewire cards:

FireWire/1394 Controller PCI Cards:

ADS PYRO PCI 64
Part Number: API-311
Bus type: 64-bit PCI

SIIG 1394 3-port PCI i/e
Part Numbers:
NN-440012 (discontinued)
NN-440012-S8 (RoHS compliant)
Bus type: 32-bit PCI

Some built-in 1394/FireWire ports may be incompatible with Pro Tools. if you experience FireWire-related issues or errors when using the built-in 1394/FireWire ports on your computer, Digidesign recommends installing a Digidesign-approved 1394/FireWire card.

You may also want to look at the steps in the Win XP/ Pro Tools 6.x/7.x General Troubleshooting thread and post specific info on your system per the info on that thread if you're unable to resolve the problem.

Id download the driver again and do an uninstall/reinstall assuming your on xp Im pretty sure this is it:http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=....drivers&f=760
DAE error -6006 on launch of Pro Tools M-Powered on Win XP machine. Pro Tools will not launch.
The error means one of the following things happened:

The driver failed to start (i.e. we called start but didn’t get any callbacks for five seconds). If there’s a five second delay before the error message, then this is what’s going on.

The driver issued an unexpected / unsupported reset request. (That shouldn’t be the case for a firewire device unless it gets hotplugged or something.)

The driver failed to respond to getBufferSize or getSampleRate calls. Again, not likely if the device is otherwise healthy.

Most common causes are:

Running Windows XP Service Pack 1. (Update to SP2)

Incompatible Firewire card/port. (Install a qualified Firewire card)

Insufficient Bus Power. (See the M-Audio Knowledgebase article)

Here are some tips on further debugging:

Confirm that the device works as expected in some other ASIO application.

Try a different firewire port and/or cable.

Select some *other* sound device as the default device in the control panel.

I was having the same problem until tonight when I downloaded the new firmware file for the 410 from the m-audio site. Now my piece is working perfectly. You might have to install it a couple of times but once it'as installed it should fix your problem
