Re: Advice on workflow and sync - film to PAL.
Sorry Tom (and all) I guest I'm not saying clearly before. So let say the workflow (has been decided) as follow:
We're in PAL land: - Shot at 24 - TC at 25 - We sync at ?? - Avid Project at 24 - Work video at 24@25 - EDL at 24 Any suggestion/correction? Thank you.

Re: Advice on workflow and sync - film to PAL.
Bokir,
the syncing method depends on what tools you're using for the job. If you're syncing dailies just for screening, then sync at 25. The best way of doing so is using AATON's InDAW software/hardware. It will speed up the audio to 25 FPS and lay it back to tape (i assume you're doing the telecine transfer to some kind of tape, like Beta SP or Digi Beta). At the end of the day, AATON InDAW will be able to export those files to NLE, like AVID and you can use them in native speed projects (24FPS) The second method is to sync them up in AVID or FCP, and then you can choose to lay it back to original Beta tape, at 25 FPS, or to output at 24fps, with picture pulldown to a new Digital Cut tape. Of course, you can invent dozens of other ways to sync the dailies, but these two will leave an open door to the later stages of post production. Branko |

I forgot one thing: picture EDLs will be probably at 25 FPS. Cut lists at 24 FPS.

Re: Advice on workflow and sync - film to PAL.
Thank you all for the great answers.
Branko you're spot on. Thats really explain the workflow. But regarding working solely on ProTools environment, can you enlight me how to emulate the dailies sync workflow of Aaton inDAW? We pull-up the sound 4% for sync? Regards.

Re: Advice on workflow and sync - film to PAL.
Yep, thatt would be the answer! The problem is that the audio synced in ProTools looses all important information (TC of the original file, camera roll, shooting date, take, slate etc.) so you'll have to re-sync it later to be able to properly use it in your picture NLE system. OTOH, AATON is kinda expensive....
