Default Pro Tools FREE \"Release 2\" is Now Available

Hello,

Pro Tools FREE 5.0.1 "Release 2" for Windows is on-line and available for download.

This an update release for the Windows 98/Millennium version of Pro Tools FREE only (the Mac version has not been updated).

You can download R2 using the following link: http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/

Please note that most of the problems that have been reported with Pro Tools FREE (especially hangs, reboots, crashes) have been resolved by downloading and installing the latest sound card drivers. Most SoundBlaster users have had much better results after installing new drivers, available from http://www.creativehelp.com/files/download.asp

Here's a list of some of the things we've addressed in R2:

1. Several important bugs have been fixed in version R2 that solve various crashes & hangs on launch and when opening sessions.

2. Optimizations have sped up screen redraws, loading sessions, and other operations.

3. Once selected, the 48 KHz. sample rate setting will 'stick' without the need to re-open a Saved session.

4. A -9125 error caused by the SoundCheck session's TM symbol has been corrected.

5. Some users have reported a hang with the message, "Scanning Program Memory." We have made adjustments which should eliminate this problem.

6. A problem causing a burst of noise added at the end of recorded audio files has been corrected.

7. The Gueillmot ISIS soundcard now works with Pro Tools FREE.

8. The Turtle Beach Montego soundcard is now working better with PT FREE R2 on some systems.

9. The "unsteady pitch" or "worbling" occurring during playback on some systems has been fixed.

10. An InstallShield bug (with iKernel) that prevented installation for some people has been resolved.

Best Regards,
The Pro Tools FREE Team

Good morning!

Considering release 1:

Even though for some mysterious causes my system frequently rebooted when using PTFree, I loved how nice the LowLatency (about 3ms using MME) monitoring worked with Sonorus StudI/O - in fact I guess you could talk to the company (?) about releasing some "semi-LE" for this platform. Runs 100% realtime, and I'm sure it could run even better with proper optimisation - of course if it would not be anything bad for Digi001 (anyways Sonorus is not a big company, so you might consider it

about release 2:

wow! congratulations. I can't wait to try it. Hopefully all the freezes/crashes/reboots will be gone (?). Thank you Digidesign.

Do you know if this 'Release 2' is interchangeable with Mac and PC...ie. If I have a PC with PTFREE R2, and my friend has a Mac With a TDM based system, will we be able to exchange sessions??

Regards,
Sharma

Sharma ( and to many others as well ),

In short, NO.

Let's all remember PTFree exists to lure BUYERS for Digidesign's higher end products.

If PTFree works for you, GREAT! If all you ever hope to do with music is limited to the features within PTFree, GREAT!

However, if it doesn't work for you, whether it's a sound card issue or because you'd like more features ... sorry, but you'll need to actually BUY something.
You won't hear this in so many words directly from Digidesign, but, face it people, this is a company in business to SELL.
Now, slap yourself for being so naive.
