Default system freezes while using plug ins

First I would like to thank digidesign for giving me the chance to try Pro tools this has been a very valuable tool in helping me make a decision about recording software, I am also sure that Digidesign has put their best foot foward with this release and I beliave it is the very best their design team is capable of at this time....with that said here is my problem today, after I highlight a section of audio and move to the audiosuite plug ins, the sytem freezes after trying a few different setting with ANY given plug in...I am usually able to ctrl/alt/del my way out of protools but when I try to restart the program it gives me a message that says I do not have enough memory to run this program...please help if you can...thank you

Tex

Highlight the audio, open the audiosuite plugins (any) and hit hit preview on and off a few times (or just switch between a few) and bang! frozen. What gives? has anyone seen this besides me?...here is the second computers specs just for fun...help!

Same thing happened to me once. I tried re-booting a few times, and it just didn't work. This was in the morning. Came home at night, and everything ran fine; go figure.

As a matter of fact, every problem I've had w/ Pro Tools Free until now mysteriously solved itself this way. Last time, I couldn't bounce to disk- a message box seemed to appear but it disapeared as fast as it came on screen; kept trying, re-booting but it just wouldn't work. Came back a few hours later and everything worked fine.

I've just tried this and my system does the same thing - preview an Audiosuite plug-in a few times and the system slows down, and finally freezes. A reboot cures it.

P II 400MHz
Intel 440BX chipset
192Mb RAM
Gina soundcard

Most other functions seem OK - RTAS is fine, recording is OK except for occasional bursts of audio trash at the end of a recording. Resizing and compacting takes care of this.

Bugs.....?

I just know everybody was waiting for another plugin update so here it is! I have tried the same scenario as described in the post above and now three more machines that are supposed to be very compatible freeze while applying plugins, as in I am guessing that everyone’s machine will freeze just by hitting the preview on and off several times, or just switching between plugins...so this is my question, does digi 001 do this too? I am guessing it does, but I have not had a chance to try it...and speaking of chance I am not willing to take a chance yet on a digi 001 after trying this, unless there is a fix. whew! I was about to buy one now I am thinking Nuendo...any ideas???

My Digi 001 does not do this. I just tested it quite a bit to be sure. Actually, I've had no problems at all with my system since getting the Digi 001.

Here's my system configuration in case you're curious:

Intel PIII 650 Slot 1 - 100MHz FSB
256Mb PC-100 SDRAM

I/O Magic (Promise chipset) ATA 66 PCI controller (in PCI slot #1)
Sound Blaster Live! Value (in PCI slot #2)
Creative PCI Flash 56 Voice Modem (in PCI slot #3)
Digi 001 (in PCI slot #5)
5400 RPM Maxtor ATA 66 20Gb system drive (alone on CH-1 of ATA66 controller)
7200 RPM Maxotr ATA 66 20Gb audio drive (alone on CH-2 of ATA66 controller)
HP 9100i CD-RW (alone on CH-1 of motherboard ATA33 controller)
Toshiba SD-M1212 DVD ROM (master on CH-2 of motherboard ATA33 controller)
Iomega Zip 250 (slave on CH-2 of motherboard ATA33 controller)

This is a problem that I believe everyone has that is using PTF(mine freezes after the 5th or 6th audiosuite plugin preview). It more than likely has to do with a hardware compatibility problem(that's probably why it doesn't occur using the DIGI001). Till the Digi gurus figure this one out, guess we're stuck with it(but hey, what do ya want for free software?)I'll deal with the re-boots as long as I can still use PTF.
