The Mother of all Fears - Water Damage
Hello friends,
A few minutes ago I went down into my studio and found a steady stream of water pouring directly over my DA7 digital mixer, MPC2000, Genelecc monitors and everything else within reach. Basically water came down thru my leaking upstairs bathroom. I've just tried to remove and wipe off as much water as I can. My mixer, MPC2000, 2 Computer Monitors, Genelec monitors, keyboards are certainly drenched with a heavy dose of water. What if any is the best way to attempt a salvage operation. Open them up and blow them dry? leave them off for a long while to be sure they dry out? please help. |

Re: The Mother of all Fears - Water Damage
DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER. I REPEAT DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER. You will melt the electronics if you get too close. Let me be specific - Not on hot. Use cool. dab with a towel to dry. MAKE SURE THEY ARE UNPLUGGED. Sorry for yelling but I'm getting anxious. Do not attempt to check for 24 hours. Open the cases - dab them with a towel - blow dry cool and wait. And pray.

Re: The Mother of all Fears - Water Damage
Been through this several times, outdoor events, water damage. Unplug immediately, drain any water you can, and open the gear up. fans or gentle blowdrying will speed up the process. Obviously don't hodl the blowdryer directly over one area on high for 10 minutes, however all blowdryers are equipped with safety shutoffs tht will nto allow them to really get to damaging temps anyway, so that becomes a non-issue.
Your best freind is warm sunshine. Allow the gear to stand in a dry envirnment for at least 48 hours, get a dehumidifer for the water dammaged area, and make darn shure you test by using a protected (GFI) circuit. Most likjely you'll survive fine. Good luck. |

Re: The Mother of all Fears - Water Damage
Thanks guys for your advice. I was thinking about getting a small air compressor to blow dry the equipment. Do you think the pressure may be too much or if I use it at a safe distance would it be okay?
