Default Western Digital External Drive

I got a 200GB Western Digital External Firewire/USB Drive.

Will I be able to run sessions on it?

Is it easy to run a session on Mac Pro Tools and then mount on PC Pro Tools and jump back and forth?

How do you "mount" a hard drive?

Just got the 120gb myself. You don't really have to mount anything, just install the software once on the PC. On the Mac, I don't think there's anything to do. After that, it's plug-and-play, so you can even unplug the drive (Safe Remove in XP, drop in Trash can on Mac) and replug it in the other computer. Sessions are totally portable, although I was unable to load sessions directly from the drive at my friend's place with his 002 (I have a 001). After copying the files on his own FW drive, he could load the session.
But yeah, you can record directly to the drive, although I use FW for backup purposes mostly, but I've recorded direct, worked just fine.

If your FW drive utilizes the Oxford 911 chipset you can run PT sessions on it, otherwise it's only for storage.

FWIW, this firewire docking system will run PT sessions, is totally expandable and accepts any standard ATA drive that is Protools compatible. the dock cost is around $90, including one inner tray, which you put any drive. add'linner trays are $25 each. You can easily see the infinite expandability of this system, not needing to buy mor ethan an inner tray. Drives are of course hot swappable. It is silent, efficient, universal AC powered, and extremely economical.

Hope this is helpful.

You must format the drive on a windows machine for it to be cross platform. Whiel the Mac can read a windows drive, windows cannot read a mac drive.

Hope this is helpful.
