Default should i jump?

I have received some opinions that at the moment pro-tools runs better on some of the older macs than the G4. Is this true and/or will it get sorted in time anyway. Basically is this a good time to take the plunge and buy a new computer!

I'm a Protools Pro working in NYC at a major studio. AT work I use a G4 and a 9600, and at home I use a Beige G3/300mhz 3xx Ram. If you plan to do a lot of file processing, obviously the G4 is very, very fast. But I would not say all that reliable. And of course this is to do with the macOS9 which is just now becoming more stable with 9.0.4
But putting up with the hassle to get that usb floppy drive was a major pain for me, none for others. I love my Beige G3, it is rock solid. If you find a good deal on one go for it, otherwise deal with the headaches of the G4 it'll pay off in the future.

I have had not even 1 Pro Tool induced
crash on the G4 in our studio and running
it 24/7,and i don`t agree that the G3 is
any more stable then the G4, if anything
the g4 is just a faster machine.
We were running PT 4.3.1 on a blue/white
and it worked well, but since upgrading to
the G4 & 5.0 , this is the fastest/trouble
free daw i`ve ever worked on...
Forget about anything older then a G3...
Just my opinion,
Eric
