Default Altering Drum Loops to 3/4 time??

Hello people...

I have been using PTLE for about 6 months and it's been a blast so far but I am currently working on a demo thats in 3/4 time that has me a little stumped. I didn't really turn up anything in my DUC search attempts so I thought I would try a post.

I want to know if it is possible to alter loops that are in 4/4 tempo to fit 3/4 tempo? or to rephrase that - how do you go about working with drum loops in alternate (to 4/4) tempos? Is it possible?

I have had some mixed results in my attempts so far but I thought there may be an easier way. I am using Ableton Live via Rewire to audition the loops in PTLE and have also mucked about a little with Reason,Beat Detective, MIDI/Smapletank and tempo markers in my experiments - I feel like I am heading down the right track but need some help to get my head around this. Any advice welcome!

Just use the magic 4/4 to 3/4 plugin.Works the same way as the English to Spanish revocalator.

Sorry mate, this is my day job.

Couldn't help it - I normally don't do that, but I couldn't resist.... some opportunities are too good to pass up - especially when a question like that comes from Sydney !

In short, the answer to your question is a resounding "no". You are far better off finding some loops in 3/4, or hunting around for some midi files in different time signatures. Editing and slicing beats out of audio loops tends to sound very unnatural, and unmusical, and time stretching them is just plain pointless.
Try looking at Drumcore, and I think BFD may have some 3/4 grooves.

BTW - the other guys here found it funny.

Would of been really funny if I fell for it...yeah maybe I was asking for it, trap for young players huh!! It's tough being a new kid on the block. Thanks heaps for the straight answer though - you have saved me heaps of time.

You audio pro people have the experience/nous and what might seem obvious to you often gets lost on muso/home studio newbies like me....amid the "Time Compression/Expansion Grid to Tempo Reason/Sampletank/Manipulate the digital file anywhichwayyoucan Digiblurb" it is very easy to get a deluded impression of PT and what it can and can't actually do ...thats why I read the DUC - to learn from you guys.

...don't give up your day job to be a comedian then, or get some more original jokes - heard that translator plug in joke many times now.

See ya round!
