Re: External Firewire HD?
Look for an Oxford 911 or 922 chipset, 7200 RPM drive.
Wiebetech is great (mostly online); some LaCie qualify and are in stores (e.g. my d2 Extreme Triple Interface that I spent about $150 on) Scott |

Re: External Firewire HD?
Glyph is my favorite. Had great results with them. I bought 2 36GB drives (back when 36GB was HUGE...thats been about 5 years). they are both still running perfectly, like they were the first day.
I know everyone hates them, but I've had great results with the LaCie Porsche drives too. I have a few 160GBs and they've been great. LaCie only makes the enclosure though and I know some people that have been bitten by warranty issues because of this. Lacie sends them to the drive maker; the drive maker sends them to Lacie. In the end nothing gets accomplished. In my experience, both are good. This is the cheapest place I found. 160GB, 7200RPM, FW. Can't beat it. http://www.securemart.com/cgi-bin/fu...ls=&mv_stock=y

Re: External Firewire HD?
7200RPM ... what does it stand for... I mean, is that the standard for audio recording or something like that. Thanks for the help bros, I'm evaluating prices now.

All I use is Lacie. Reliable, quiet, quick... A little more than others, but i think its worth it.

Re: External Firewire HD?
For my desktop Mac i swear by Maxtor. I have two One Touch firewire drives, 160GB & 200GB. I also have a 200GB USB one touch which i use solely for backup purposes. These drives are fast, quiet and cheap. I use them with Pro Tools and Final cut Pro and they've never missed a beat.
Cheers

I would also recommend you go with firewire instead of USB. It may not matter in the whole scheme of things, but in my experience they are much faster and tend to throw less errors in Protools.

I have a OneTouch II, and it's excellent. The III series looks even more amazing. Definetly check them out.
