digimax or octopre big difference from mackie pres?

thanks for the replies... i can't say i'm any less confused. bioux, i understand what you are saying about the converters being important. however, i think the two units you mention are 2-channel devices and wouldn't help me with drums. i should say i also own a motu 2408 from an old system and i use that to get my extra 8 channels. i don't know how the converters in that compare... anybody? i suppose i'm a bit lazy - i'm not really one to sit around a/b'ing all my equipment to find out what's the best, i just like to plug in and rock. i'm looking for something i know sounds good, so i don't have to worry about it.

as far as the vocals on the song go, i'm not totally sure where i'm going with it - probably some kind of sing/scream thing. i'm writing this new stuff and i don't know if i'm going to sing myself or try and find somebody.
