Default Pro tools 2022.10 : Bounce as MP3 48kHz 320kbps errors

Hi,
I have just started using Pro Tools Ultimate 2022.10 (Mac Mini 16GB RAM, OS 12.6.2 Monterey) and whenever I bounce to MP3 and reimport the file, it is described as being a 32 bit file.

The import of a simple mp3 files takes a long time. My old PT HD10.3.10/Snow Leopard does this much much faster.

Also, I had a ceiling of -1.2dB and the mp3 bounce still ends up clipped at 0dB. -1.2dB Peak always seemed to be a very safe ceiling.

Thanks

Hi, I'm not sure why it shows as 32 bit, unless that's your session bit depth, but bit depth has no meaning for an mp3 file since it's a compressed format.

I think a lot of people are reporting this although I haven't experienced it. Search the forums to see if anyone has a solution. Hopefully the next Pro Tools update will be better importing mp3's

Someone more knowledgeable about mp3's may know the exact reason, but I'm guessing again it's something to do with converting from a compressed format to lossless.

Exactly! No sense at all an mp3 file with a description of being a 32 bit word lenght.

FRankly, I think the mp3 thing is really messed up. Tomorrow I will try to do the mp3 encoding of the same mastered song and the import with my old PT HD10.3.10 and verify the ceiling overshoot. ISPs and celing setting was taken care a lot prior to encoding.

I think my overs average about .2dB with mp3 exports. So about the expected margin. Almost always 48kHz 320kbps.

I'm still on 2022.7 so the import speed is normal. It was very slow for several versions. There were reports that it broke again in 2022.10..... so there's that. Maybe it'll be fixed with the upcoming release.

Also sometimes I use another tool to create mp3's. Acon Acoustica for example. Much faster than PT if I have more than one to deal with.
