Default Digi 192 I/O Question

Ok people, I'm hearing more than one thing and basically trying to find out the truth before I spend anymore money. I'm new to HD but familiar with it. I have a Digi 192 I/O and it only has the Digital I/O card installed. Some are saying I can use HD without the card and some are saying I can't. BEFORE I order a PCIe Core card (yes I know it won't work without the card), would I need the Analog cards installed or would HD read the 192 with just the Digital I/O card installed? I can easily borrow a friends card to test but he's charging me to use it so I want to know before I spend any money. Check the pictures

you have a 192 with the AD/DA cards pulled not a Digital 192

I don't know if it will work with out them, I think it will but I'm not sure

some cards are difficult to come by for 192s, I know the Digital cards are but I don't know about AD and DA cards

Is the Digital IO card input or output? Reading the .pdf manual but not really telling me much. I got this because it was free, kinda see why but I know it's still hope. I almost bought a 96 IO then this opportunity popped up and blessed me so I had to take advantage of it and save some cash. The guy said it would work without the AD/DA cards but another guy said in order for it to work, it has to have one AD/DA card and one Digital card or both AD/DA cards. Basically two cards installed instead of one.

I mean dude just literally asked what was I doing with my life and I told him music production/engineering. Then he asked if I needed any equipment and what my budget was and I told him I was a student and right now I couldn't afford anything. I told him I was using LE with the MBox and he said sell my MBox and go HD and he'll be my first investor. Now I have it but don't know which way to go. Definitely not going back to LE 7.4!

Hi,

In my experience, it will work without the AD or DA card. When my AD card was in repair I've test it unplugged the DA card too, and connect the digital out to my digital in monitors and it work.

Regards,

ps: my AD need repair again, [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] AD card's...

IN Hardware Setup i choose upper left Digital Format - Optical (S/PDIF)

And then connect the optical the one's that are right beside your wordclock.

The optical in the DA cards are ADAT (8 channels) this are just stereo optical.

AD DA (Analog -> Digital or Digital -> Analog)

Regards,

Confirmed. You can run a 192 i/o with cards missing, it's in the operating manual. I've added / removed card many times, no problems at all. The question is whether digital I/Os are useful to you, what are you going to hook up to the interface?
In order to run the 192 i/o you do need a host card, such as HD Core card PCI-x or PCIe or alternatively an HD native card. You may also want to wait until the HDx cards are for sale. (Haven't arrived in the stores around my area yet).

Welcome to the world of PT HD. A good place to be.

Cheers,

Jan
