and we all know it was/is MUCH more convenient to haul an 003 from computer to computer than it is to take an iLok to another computer.

Just went through this process, and it is NOT convenient!

1. Report ilok lost/stolen at ilok (hopefully you have ZDT - cost 39.95)
2. Ilok will issue you temp licenses (you will have to purchase another iLok 49.95)
3. ilok will email you a RMA number. You will need this when you contact your software companys to get replacement licenses. Ilok, in some cases will contact your vendor. In my case they did contact Celemony and they immediately deposited the new licenses into my account -FREE of charge. If you have digi / Avid licenses move on to the next step:
4. Contact Avid on website, pay another 39.95 for phone support!!!!!
5. Call Avid, wait for 30 minutes on hold. Once an operator answers the phone, give them the RMA number, and the proof that you paid for phone support and wait for them to deposit the new licenses into your ilok account.

Oh yeah, thats a very efficient system!!!! Total cost $130.00!!

I am totally against piracy of any kind! But to pay $130.00 for replacement of a license that you have already paid $2500 + is bogus!!

Been there, done that! You replace the hardware and yes it will cost you. BUT, you dont have to pay for them to transfer a license like you do with Avid.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, actually.

I'd say if you lost an iLok that wasn't insured, and didn't have to pay full price for replacement licenses, you're way ahead of the game.
I mean, if I "lose" one of my $2500.00 preamps, I have a $500.00 deductable I have to pay my insurance company.
