Synchronic question...
Does anybody know (Digi?...) if Synchronic will be able to use third party Pitch/stretch plugin such as PNT or Speed instead of the Digirack plugs (Time expansion/compression and Pitch Shift)?...
In fact, the question should be which algorythm is Synchronic using for Pitch/stretch? Thanks.

Re: Synchronic question...
Nowhere... And that's pretty much why I'm asking the question :

But my guess is, being a Digi product, chances are that it uses the Digirack pitch&stretch plugs... Hope I'm wrong...

Re: Synchronic question...
I am also guessing here...but I would assume they are not using their time compression. When looking at the plugin it looks almost exactly like RECYCLE but in a plugin form. Since Avid just bought M-Audio a few months ago, I wouldn't be surprised if this really was just a repackaging of RECYCLE or maybe the Ableton Live engine as an RTAS plugin for use directly in Protools.
But, then again...until we talk to the developers we have no real idea...it could technically be anything. From what I've heard, and some of my own assumptions; this is just the beginning of the integration between M-Audio's products and Protools. I hope to see a lot more in the near future.

Re: Synchronic question...
Good guess indeed... Had not thought it this way...
Now, could someone from Digi confirm this?...

Re: Synchronic question...
Synchronic had been in development long before the M-Audio acquisition was starting to take shape. Though it may be inspired by other products out in the market, the technology and ideas in Synchronic are entirely Digi-created.
With respect to the TCE algorithms used, they are based more on Beat Detective than on standard TCE algorithms (which makes sense because Synchronic is more of a beat/drum-based tool). I'd recommend you give the plug-in a try and make your own judgement on how it sounds. We think folks will be very pleased -- Joe Saracino Manager, Digidesign DSP Group |

Re: Synchronic question...
OK Joe, thanks for the reply... But in my mind, Beat Detective has never been an algorythm...
And since you're metionning TCE, I guess it's being used in the process... This algorythm is not the best there is, you know... Just hoped I could use Speed or PNT instead. Anyway, you're right on one thing, I should just give it a try.

Re: Synchronic question...
I've always preferred Digi's TCE for drums over PNT and Speed. Pitch instruments is another story (like bass or piano) but for percussion and drums I've found that Digi's TCE is more natural sounding. Anyway, that's just my preference...Can't wait to play with Syncronic!
