Default The 6 and 12 core mac pros are coming.....

Looks like apple has finally done it. Interestingly enough, most of us(myself included) speculated that this would cause the price of the 2009 nehalem mac pros to drop. Not likely, the nehalem 4 core remains available at the same $2499 price, it is still basically the same machine, aside from a mild cpu clock speed increase to 2.8 GHz. The 12 core's start at 5k.

They will also be offering imacs like mine - with an internal HDD and SSD.

It's too bad they only give you the choice of an ssd and a regular drive. It's really expensive and it would be way better if they offered the choice of 2 regular drives. I mentioned this in another thread. I suppose you could take it apart and put your own drive in there, especially now that there's a dedicated space for it, and you don't have to lose the optical drive.

...Come to think of it, you could lose the optical drive and have a 3rd regular drive! Maybe?

Yeow! Aren't engineers suppose to be... engineers? Just a little bit techie? There are 4 drive slots. Fill them as you want when you get the machine. Don't pay Apple $550 for each 2 Terra drive when you can get the same thing for less than $150. What we need is Avid to approve recording on SSD drives. OWC has some really fast ones... None of the 12 cores are available yet. And whatever costs 5K now will be reduced to rubble in 6 years. Pick a good time to jump and at the right price.
Next I'll hear from someone that Apple drives are better. Like they make their own drives...

Electrox, we weren't talking about the Mac Pros, which we know are very easy to install drives in. We're talking about the Imacs, which are much more difficult to install drives in, because they're not really made for the end user to be able to do that.

Sorry! I thought that since the title of the thread was Mac Pros that this was what you were addressing. Are you running HD systems off of these iMacs?

See Jimi.....this is the stuff you don't need to print. It's why you have alot of people who don't like you on this DUC. You could just nicely state the first sentence without the others following it.

i don't care about being liked.

i'm liked enough in my life, world and affairs to satisfy any needs in that area.

i care about being free to shape my words and ideas in the manner i choose.

friends worth having respect each other that way

i certainly don't intend to hurt any one and i can't see how i might have

¿what was so important for you to have a need to give me a piece of your mind?

¿was it more appropriate to you than my freedom to express?

by the way...and just to enlighten you

my comment was said tongue in cheek with total humor and good spirit

but i meant it

I missed what was supposedly insulting in his post.

Guess I just got all excited the Jimi might be sending me a donation for R&Ding SSDs for his cats.
