Is there such a thing as too much RAM?
Is there a point where adding more RAM doesn't have much of an effect. I have 524 Meg on my PC and I'm wondering if adding more will increase performance (increase capacity to use more of plug-ins). I was told by one person that adding after you're at 500-600 Meg doesn't really do much.
Any thoughts??? |

Adding more than you have won't add any performance. It may even hurt your performance because of Windows 98 and ME's ram problems.

Re: Is there such a thing as too much RAM?
Windows 98 won't even support over 500MB anyway!

Re: Is there such a thing as too much RAM?
I have read here that Windows 98SE works best with 256 megs RAM. Windows 98SE is optiminizied to work best with 256 megs and anymore will actually decrease efficiency with PTLE and a default Windows 98SE install.
You can actually add more but there are system tweaks that would have to be done, and I have no idea how that's accomplished. Hope this helps. |

Re: Is there such a thing as too much RAM?
Check these links out. There are work arounds for adding large amounts of RAM to your system. The question is, does PTLE take advantage of more memory or does it tax the processor the most. I suspect that adding more memory won't necessarily help with PTLE because I've never had the system run low on memory but Ihad it tell me that it's running low on processor power. I'd spend my money on a faster processor, if applicable. http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q253/9/12.ASP
