Default Clean up???

Hey all,

There's probably an easy solution for this, but i'm not sure what. I just finished a session and 12 songs = 50GB! How do you clean up all the unused tracks, but keep the one we used in case we want to change the mix later? Thanks alot,

Eric

This is what I've done in the past:

Consolidate the final tracks, then select all unused and remove them. This leaves you with a small number of song-length files (allowing you to go back to the mix) while getting rid of all those unused alternate takes and mistakes.

This works well for me.

Cleaning Up

FIRST! If you haven’t already, MAKE a BACKUP OF YOUR SESSION! using the “Save Session Copy In” command in the file menu. Check save all audio files and plugin folders. This will be your backup of the tracking session with all takes and audio files.

To get your session ready to mix, open your working session.

Clean up tracks by going through them and deleting loud noises and other
extraneous elements you don't want in the mix.
Check that all edits and punches are clean, put in crossfades if necessary, and
make sure there are no clicks and pops.
Consolidate tracks into solid audio starting from the beginning of the session when you are completely finished editing them,
Delete all tracks that are not needed for the mix.
Delete all playlists that are not needed for the mix.
Remove all unused audio files before closing the session.

To slim down and archive your session,

1. Save a copy of your current session by choosing the Save As… command in
the File menu.
2. Give the new “Save As”session a different name than your original, then close the original session and open the one you just saved with a different name.
3. Choose Select Unused Regions from the Audio Regions list pop-up menu.
4. Choose Clear Selected from the Audio Regions list pop-up menu.
5. Click Remove. Do NOT click Delete.
6. Choose Save Session Copy In... in the File menu.
7. Select Enforce Mac/PC Compatibility.
8. Select Save All Audio Files.
9. Save the session to a different hard drive than the drive the original session
resides on. The CPU hard drive can be used if no other drive is available.
10. Remove the original session's drive from desktop.
11. Confirm that the newly created session Opens.
12. Test playback of the new session from beginning to end to confirm all files
play.
