Default The Omni's I / O limitations

So I am thinking about adding one of these units to my current HD IO 8 x 8 x 8

So the maximum inputs I can stream into the Omni into ProTools is four analog inputs as I understand it

Just wanted to make sure that there is no limits or restrictions on the outputs.

Another user gave me the idea to use the analog outs for headphone feeds.... And I just want to be sure there is no restrictions on the outputs. I'll be able to use all of my outputs across both interfaces?

I was reading the manual last night and it said the max inputs was limited but I didn't find anything talking about the max output limitation

Yes. As stated in the specs. 4 analog inputs, two of those are preamp/DI. You can go up to 8 inputs if you use digital.

It's an 8x8 interface. With all 8 outputs available as analog. You can do whatever with it you want with it and other Digilink Interfaces, just the same as any other Digilink box. The limits of the Omni are just the combination of what is physically present in the box and the 8x8 overall limit. They really did not want to hurt HD 16x16 sales... kind of a pity now the Omni looks so limited compared to other boxes. The Focusrite Red 4Pre sure looks interesting. OTOH hopefully used Omni will be at bargain basement prices...

Default The Omni's I / O limitations

Yep, used omni as a Monitoring control, and extra 8 outputs for pushing individual HP mixes

$800 - sweet deal.

Have you seen the prices for the 8 Analog Output cards for the new IO's? Make an Omni for $800 seem easy

I agree, at those used prices, they are a great addition to many people with a Digilink stack.

Keep in mind it's 8 outputs total. If you are using 2 for your stereo monitoring, then you only have 6 outs left. It's not stereo monitor plus 8. The TRS jacks simply mirror 2 of the outputs, as a convenience so you don't have to have a DB-25 cable.

One alternative is to use your adat outs on the 8x8 with something like the Behringer Powerplay system.

Default Re: The Omni's I / O limitations

Is anyone still reading this thread?

I’m finally diving into using this as more than a simple stereo analog i/o.
The hardware setup menu confuses the **** out of me.
I’m not embarrassed to say so.

I have some hardware (reverb and converter) that I’d like to connect via AES or ADAT.
I ONLY need a stereo analog i/o.

Has anyone mastered this unit?
I could use some help/guidance.

Thanks.

Default Re: The Omni's I / O limitations

Well, after many hours of patching and repatching both analog and digitally I’ve realized this unit has some serious i/o limitations all based on the convoluted hardware setup.

And incredibly pour metering.

It’s too bad. I had Black Lion modify it and it really does sound good now.
Before, not so good.

Live and learn. C’est la vie.
Gonna sell it and find something else. Maybe a Lynx Aurora?
