Default How do you uninstall (Windows 10)??

Seriously, I didn't think I'd been away in the world of Apple so long, but Windows is a bloody shambles. Either that or Pro Tools for Windows is bloody shambles too (very possible - it's the ONLY piece of software that refused to work reliably and quickly on Windows 10).

I go to add/remove programs, and the options to modify or uninstall are grayed out. I genuinely despair.

I want to go back to 12.4 and not pay may the monthly piss-take fee, and I'd love to do that by uninstalling, and then installing the version I want (imagine that - crazy thought).

Any help?

I'm sorry you are having trouble on your system. I'm running 12.7 on my Windows 10 with no issues. It's actually a MacBook Pro running Windows 10 in Boot Camp, because I can't stand running OSX.

The options to modify or uninstall are grayed out on my system as well, but you can do it from Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features. Just search for Control Panel in Windows Search or Cortana. Then select "Uninstall a Program" near the bottom left of the Control Panel window.

When you select Avid Pro Tools in the list you will have options to Change or Repair. Click Change, and the Pro Tools installer will provide an option to remove Pro Tools.

Here's a tip that gets thrown around here regularly....why?....because it's the smart thing to do.

Make a backup image of your system drive. If/when you want to go back, just reload that image. It takes 15-20 minutes....done.

+1000 for saving a drive image BEFORE any new software install or update. Having said that, If you go to the applications list(Windows 10), you might be able to right-click on PT and choose uninstall. In Windows 7, going to Control Panel(Categories)>Uninstall a Program> clicking on Pro Tools does not show a Remove option, but clicking on Change brings up a new window where Remove is an option. If Change/Modify is the only option, select Change and the next window will likely give the Remove option(I have indeed removed PT many times on Windows 7 and 10). Having used both, I am hanging on to Windows 7, while my partner in the midi suite is running Win10 on a nearly identical PC(same mobo/cpu/RAM, different nVidia graphics cards).

When you DO find the Remove option, you will have 3 options:Remove Pro Tools, Remove Pro Tools and HD Driver, Remove PT, HD Drive, prefs and database files. The third option is best, BUT you may be fine opting for the second choice(and DO pick AT LEAST the second choice and remove the HD Driver, regardless of your system and hardware). Another recommended thing, after the uninstall of Pro Tools finishes, scroll down to Pace 64 bit Support and remove(uninstall) that as well(it will get automatically reinstalled when you install your preferred version of Pro Tools. AND ALWAYS(Windows users) right-click on the Setup file and choose Run as Administrator(best to run all installers with this option)

If you do want to downgrade to 7 or 8, here are some good instructions:

I had this exact problem, try this:
To fix:
Right click on your start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)".
In the command prompt, type "control appwiz.cpl".
The old style uninstall screen should open, so you can select "Avid Protools" from the list, then at the top, select "Change"
In the pop up window, choose "Uninstall"

This will uninstall pro-tools in Windows 10 if the modify and uninstall buttons are grayed out.

To get a really clean uninstall I'd also take a trip through the Windows Registry with CCleaner. Uninstallers don't always remove all the little bits and bobs. Don't forget to clone your system drive before going into the registry as it's possible to muck things up and have a computer that won't boot.

I uninstalled CCleaner ever since its updater was hacked and delivering malware around the world. The method I used worked just fine.

Revo Uninstaller Pro also works pretty well for this kind of thing.
