Axiom 49 instrument midi issues

I am trying to record some midi type stuff.

I have an Axiom 49. I installed the drivers.
I checked the midi inputs. It shows Axiom 49 in1 and in2.

I created an instrument track. I tried it with tick and samples.
I inserted sample tank free. I picked a piano sound.
I then selected the record button on the mix window.
I play the keyboard and I don't hear anything or see any signal.

I created a separate midi track and selected record and I can see the signal coming in, so I know the signal is there, but I am trying to do an instrument track to use sample tank.

Anyone have any suggestions how I can get this to work.
My keyboard says it is set to channel one.
On my input for the track in the mix window, it has all channels selected.
I tried with channel 1 and it made no difference.

im using a mac. i also have samp tank and an axiom 49...have you tried opening sample tank as a stand alone? if not, do so, and select "settings" ...at the prompt, make sure midi input is selected to "usb axiom" ...does the axiom play now? if you dont have stand alone...try using another midi instrument. try

its a free linplug alpha....its nothing genius but may help trooble shoot to see if it is the sample tank not working....i say this because many of people i know using samp tank , mini moog, and mirorslav, have issues of finding the istruments in folders...also check the default midi volumes on your axiom....there are the faders. one usually controls overall instrument volume. im no midi expert but ive had some of the same issues and now love my axiom...good luck .let me know if that works...cheeers

I am a guitar player and not used to the midi world.
I am just trying to get as much power out of using pro-tools, plugins, etc.

I will try your suggestions.

I don't see an exe to kick off Sample tank as a stand alone application.

How do you open it in standalone mode? I have the free version or lite, I am not sure if it can run standalone.

hmmmm not sure...im a guitarist myself.lol i just happen to have those products... did you try the linplug? just to see if maybe its just samp tank? if you are on a mac....go to... mac hd, to " library" to "application support" to " i.k. multimedia" to "sample tank my list under smple tank is as follows...
folder: effects
folder: images
folder:instruments
etc.....
im not sure if this is because i have the stand alone....but do you have instruments in the "instrument folder? they should be there....
try this also .... mac hd to"library" to "audio" to "plug ins" to "vst" .....does it show up? also mac hd to " library" to application support" to "digidesign" to " plug ins" ....is it in that folder?

As has already been suggested, it would be nice if you could determine whether the problem is with SampleTank or something else. Perhaps you could try instantiating a different virtual instrument (VI) on the stereo instrument track, such as XPand. Once you have the VI instantiated, on the instrument track, verify the MIDI OUT is going to the VI (SampleTank, XPand, etc.). Then, also on the instrument track, verify that the AUDIO IN is coming from the VI. You should also verify in Pro Tools that "MIDI through" is checked. I believe it's under the "Options" pull-down menu.

oh yeah ....good point....make sure your track is stereo....dont think samp runs mono....oh wait , but you did say you had it open? holla!
