Which PC\'s are quieter?
I recently bought a Dell PC, haven't got the 001 yet.
The Dell puts out a rather significant high pitched whine or whistle which is annoying, even if I were not planning to use it for recording music. I'm assuming the sound is coming from the hard drives, don't know that for sure, but seems like it must be. Their info I've seen does not say which brand of drive they are, but I'm assuming they are Western Digital because under the control panel -> System -> Disk Drives it says WDC WD40 0BB-75AUA1 (they are 40 Gig 7200 rpm) Don't mean to cast aspersions on Dell, I'm going to call their customer support and see what they say. I was thinking of putting a cardboard box over it, but that seems kinda unacceptable.... So maybe I should send it back and get another one? I'm reluctant because I got a 10% employee purchase plan discount. But I guess it's worth it to get something more appropriate. So does anyone have any info or data on what systems/components may be better for quietness? Maybe those PC customizers have considered this? Marty G. |

Re: Which PC\'s are quieter?
I had the same problem with the Seagate cheeta 10,000 there was a high pitched ring. I went to a IBM 7200 and it's very quite.
hope this helps |
