Default BTD-16 bit 44.1k sessions sound better?

I just did a session 16bit/44.1. I bounced to disc just for ruff-mixes. They sound so much more like the pre-BTD, Is that because there's less numbers to crunch as opposed to 24 bit? There's more depth and there's no muffle sound like I get with 24 bit sessions. The BTD mystery continues...
