Isn't an xmon cable just a midi cable?

It's easy enough to roll your own or get a 15 pin straight through cable if the run is short enough

If it's an ES console, there is some wiring that needs to be no connection.

Check the back of the latest ICON manual for diagram. The PDFs in the web archive are wrong. PINS 3,4,11,12 should NOT be connected.

The V8 PDF is correct, see
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...641?popup=true

If rolling your own, see http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor...db15_44797.pdf

Don't use a straight through cable unless you want to see shenanigans with
your com board and xmon. I've been there. It ain't fun.

Thank you for your replies!

Yes, it's a D-Command ES.
I was gonna do it on my own, but got confused about the wiring.
I have V8 printed in my hands and it says for 12,4 and 11,3 MIDI in and out.
And everything coming from AVID/Digi says the same.

So what am I missing here?

the MIDI cabling is for diagnostics and for the System 5 MC / software control or the XMON

Hi Smart Gear,

My posts were referring to D-Control ES wiring. I had a wee look at the D-Command V8 diagram and lo and behold the 4 connections are back.
I definitely know that they need to be snipped for a D-Control ES. Now very confused with D-Command...

Something I wondered about when I was reading this thread yesterday...

Is it possible the D-Control and the D-Command use different cables?

Just a thought...

Just rockin'...what more is there?
