Default Looking Ahead

As we all await the arrival of PT6, I had a few questions in regard to sync issues and how to make the migration to PT6 and OSX a bit smoother for me.

Currently, I have a Mix system, and a Gport(the device which replaces the internal modem) Serial port on my G4. The serial port is connected to a MOTU Digitaltime Piece, which in turns receives SMPTE from the video deck, as well as sending & receiving MIDI to my HUI.

I’ve already bought a newer DP G4 in anticipation of PT6, but was hoping to bypass adding a serial port under OSX.

What I’d like to do is this: Connect both the HUI & the DPT to a USB MIDI converter. Under this scenario, can PT get sync info from the DTP via MIDI(assuming PT6 supports generic SMPTE readers of course).

Thanks in advance.
