Default Midi/buffer problems. please help!!

I am running 7.4.2 with leopard on a macbook 2.16 ghz 4 gigs of ram. I have a phantom firewire hardrive connected and an M-Audio Axiom25 through usb.

All i have is one click track and one virtual instrument track running ezdrummer. I keep getting errors saying i'm using to much cpu power and it kills the sounds. I have to shutdown protools and reopen it to get the midi sounds back. Once it said something about the usb controller i'm using (m audio axiom25) Sometimes it says i need to increase buffer size. It's always something. Sometimes it just freezes for a few seconds.

It doesn't necessarily do it when I'm just tapping around on the controller, but when i hit play i start getting errors.

Shouldn't my laptop be able to handle 10 or 20 audio tracks and a couple of virtual instruments? I'm getting problems with two tracks.

Any advice?

These CPU spike errors are usually associated with incompatible plug-ins. Make sure everything you have (even if not instantiated) is fully compatible with Leopard.

You might also try dropping the number of CPU's allocated to PT. This has been known to help in some cases.

Make sure background tasks/programs (e.g Bluetooth) are turned off also - see general troubleshooting thread above.
