Default Pro Tools error regarding buffer size

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to this so please forgive my naivety and lack of knowledge.

I recently purchased an Mbox 2 Mini along with Pro Tools LE 7.3 (which I updated to 7.3.1) to allow me to record some guitar. However, whenever I attempt to record or playback I get an error after random intervals of time stating that:

"The operating system held off interupts for too long. If this occurs frequently, try increasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine panel. (-6086)"

I've gone through all of the trouble shooting and simply do not know how to fix this problem. I've tried every combination of buffer size to no avail. My computer has a 3.4Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM. I know that my system uses the Intel(R) 915 Express Chipset family and as far as i know this chipset is supported. I'm not really sure what other system information might be relevent to this problem.

If anyone can assist me with this problem I would be most grateful.
Thankyou in advance.

Really? I'm guessing you missed this part:

Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc.

- SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application can be used to post your full system profile:
www.sisoftware.co.uk
Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions.
It's one of the last suggestions in the General Troubleshooting thread that is "stickied" at the top of this forum. It's really hard for us to assist you without that information.

You definitely need to find out which version of that chipset you have. Several are a big problem with Digi USB devices.

Digidesign's Mbox 2, Mbox 2 Mini, Mbox, and M-Audio USB audio devices are not compatible with desktop computers with the following chipsets:

* Intel 915G
* Intel 915P
* Intel 925X

915GL, 915GV, 915PL, and 925XE are compatible
See this compatibility page for details.

Unfortunately, as JMS has already mentioned, certain chipsets are not compatible with the mbox. Yours is one of those.

The chipset is your main problem, but there are a number of other issues; using only using one physical hard drive, wireless network card, and a few other minor things.

There are two possible solutions to your chipset problem: some people have had luck using a powered USB hub to plug the mbox into. The other solution would be to get a new computer that is compatible with Pro Tools.

Once you get a solution to the chipset problem, you are still going to need a separate physical hard drive for your audio sessions, and you will need to disable the wireless when using Pro Tools.

Which second hard drive are you using? Seeing how you are using a laptop, I'm assuming you have an external firewire drive right?

Did you get a dedicated hard drive for your sessions yet?
