Need opinions on preamp placement.....vintech 1272
VINTECH 1272.....DIGI 002r pre(s).....
Micing up a kit for my next studio project (before client shows up) I spent almost 3 hours last night trying to decide whether or not to use the 002r pres on the overheads or the Vintech pre(s). Vintech on Bass and Snare = WOW, the bass is round / full / punchy....and the snare actually sounds like it's got some MEAT..... Vintech on the overheads = Sounds like I am standing in the same room as the kit. Warm and full, great sound... 002r = Clean and clear, but I feel like I'm losing a little warmth on whatever source I mic compared to the vintech. I'm leaning toward vintech on the overheads....if I had 1300 more bucks, I'd get another 1272 and the problem would be solved...or just upgrade to the 273... Any thoughts?? I know some of you (bigbubbbaj) use the vintech religiously, and I wondered if you could share some of your experience. psus |

Personally, I would use the Vintech on the Snare and Kick. A good snare and kick sound is hard to beat.

Re: Need opinions on preamp placement.....vintech
Kick and snare for me.
I have some samples I use my Digimax LT on Overheads. at my web page Listen to the Drums by Bigbubbaj one - that is vintech on kick and snare, with some compression using thr RNCs on the way in, and everything else is through the digimax LT. Proper mic placement on the overheads is my trick for the imaging. I like to use an ORTF config right in between the drummers head and the snare, coming from behing him. U ise a stereo bar on 1 stand. Vintech on kick and snare is my fav. The colored sound of the vintech makes them stand out.

Re: Need opinions on preamp placement.....vintech
go with snare and kick with the vintech, and you could always use something like sound replacer or something to that degree to add some cymbols in later over top to phatten them up and give them some warmth... or... just have the drummer play cymboless the first time through and then air drum the part except for the cymbols the 2nd time through while patching the snare and kick back in on a channel on the board with the cymbols to give them that bleed feel a little bit and mix the whole thing together and voila! If the drummer starts questioning your call, just say it is all for the sake of making him sound good and he will accept it most likely... goodluck!
