eSATA External Hard Drive to Express34 Adaptor OK for Pro Tools?
I want to buy an OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini hard drive. Any thoughts on this model?
I'm thinking I can run it eSATA to my laptop via an eSATA/expresscard34 slot adaptor. Do you know if this will work well with Pro Tools? However this is all being replaced by Thunderbolt right? If I were to buy a new Mac soon can I run eSATA to some kind of Thunderbolt adaptor? Thanks for your comments as always. Macbook Pro 1,1 2ghz Intel Core Duo 2 GB RAM |

I can't help you with details, but I can say that the most knowledgeable people about eSATA are at www.macgurus.com
They understand pro audio and pro video, and with deep knowledge and great support, they've won my loyalty as a customer. |

Max,
We have over a half dozen of the OWC's you mentioned. I only use the Firewire 800 but they work great solid and a good value. OWC's support is excellent. Try the E-Sata on it and if it works great, if not use the firewire 800.

Yes over time you'll likely have Thunderbold to eSATA options packaged as either Thundebolt>eSATA or Thundebolt adapter cages that let you do Thunderbolt>ExpressCard>eSATA or Thunderbolt>PCIe>eSATA. But by the time you need to worry about it your disk drive may look so pathetically slow you'll buy a new one of those anyhow (maybe one with direct Thunderbolt connection).
Get the OWC. Darryl |

Re: eSATA External Hard Drive to Express34 Adaptor OK for Pro Tools?
I've used both firewire and esata into the express34 slot of a few different macbook pros without a hiccup. Mostly have used the esata to a gdrive for a backup recorder into pro tools. Thunderbolt products are going to be slow to pop up but i imagine someone will come out with an adapter, as others have said.

I use a macbook pro (3.1) for editing and have two esata drives connected via a sonnet tempo esata card - never experienced any problems.
Concerning Thunderbolt - look here: |
