Default Digidesign Driver Loader Error!

Hello All,

I am running Pro Tools 8 LE Mbox2 Mini on a Dell Vostro 200 with Windows XP SP2.

I've had Pro Tools installed and running fine for the last month or so. I attempted to install another Avid program (Avid Xpress Pro) last night, and immediately began receiving several error boxes when attempting to play sound through anything except Pro Tools. (IE, Google Chrome, Reason, Winamp, etc) I immediately uninstalled the avid program, but the errors continue to pop up.

The error that pops up is: Digidesign Driver Loader
A fatal error occurred. A call was placed to missing export _IODriverIniT@0

I have searched everywhere for a solution, and tried everything I can think of to fix this (uninstall/reinstall of drivers, repair install, total program reinstall) and nothing works!

Any ideas/suggestions to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Joe C.

Did you back up your working system before you...

Without a backup, your best course of action is going to be to uninstall everything Digidesign/Avid related, cleaning the registry and starting from scratch.

I will recommend a million times +1 to use hard drive imaging software to image a working system drive before any sort of software install, be it a trial, update, upgrade; whatever. Imaging software has saved my butt so many times that I cannot count, and I will recommend it for ALL computer users, not just Pro Tools/audio software users.

Thanks for the fast reply.

No, I did not do a back up prior to installing the other program.

I have since, however, uninstalled everything Digidesign/avid related, and then reinstalled Pro Tools. The problem remains.

Is it there something possibly remaining in the registry even after the uninstall?

Yes.

Did you uninstall the program and all the drivers? (PACE interlok drivers as well)

How did you do the uninstall? From Add/Remove programs?

Have you tried running the uninstaller at this location?
C:\Program Files\Digidesign\Pro Tools\Pro Tools Utilities\Uninstall Pro Tools.exe

Did you make sure to unhook the hardware before doing the uninstall?

Did you run a registry cleaner? (like CCleaner?)

Success!! I think it was something sticking around in the registry.

I did another uninstall, then ran the registry cleaner, then fresh install of Pro Tools. Up and running again.

Thanks for your help
