Replacement For Avid Pre's . . ?

I cannot believe that Avid hasn't catered for professional multi track audio recording going forward . .

There is NO replacement for their Pre units. . .
There is NOTHING that allows us to insert dynamics into a mic signal path. .

This is a sad bad & mad situation Avid . .

There are no third party manufactures making such a unit either. .

On top of that , you won't repair our stumbling Avid Pre's . .

Very, very poor Avid. . . Shame on you . .

What then do you think the MTRX (fully loaded with Mic/Line AD Cards) is?
Then when integrated with a EUCON control surface gives you full tactile control of your mic pres.

Without meaning to sound defensive & with all due respect, may I ask if you could point me to any literature confirming it's possible to use hardware inserts with mic inputs on the MTRX I or II . . ?

The MTRX ecosystem is made up of modular cards that allow for various i/o configurations (AD, DA, AES, MADI, Dante, SDI, etc...). This i/o can be configured as hardware insert send/returns. This can all be configured in the DADman software that accompanies the MTRX.

@creativecontrol and @EddieJones who contribute often on this forum can likely provide more details.

A little look see in the paperwork,(MTRX_Studio_Operation_Guide_5.4.1.pdf) reveals, as I thought, no insert point available.

That page from the manual refers to the controlling the MTRX Studio (not the MTRX II) from within Pro Tools using the legacy PRE control protocol. With DADman and EUCON you can control the mic pres with much more precision: .1 dB steps (rather than ~3 dB steps) over the Ethernet bus (rather than MIDI).

Regarding hardware inserts: again you can use DADman to set up sends/returns to/from your HDX array out to analog or digital i/o (depending on your cards) and then configure those on the Insert page of the Pro Tools i/o window.

Yes. Ok. I dig . . BUT, it sounds like you're talking about hardware inserts as we use them from within Pro Tools. .
I'm referring to insert points on the mic pre prior to going A>D.

So I am trying to follow this thread And granted I have a Carbon system and am not familiar with MTRX etc.

But I am unclear what you accomplish by inserting say a Hardware Compressor before the A/D as opposed to just inserting it as a HW insert in a mic channel inside PT ? Are you worried about clipping the converters ?
